In Community with Nature: Engaging the Living World Session #3

  • Wayfinding Academy 8010 NORTH CHARLESTON AVENUE Portland, OR 97203 (map)

with Lily Nash

We are in relationships with plants and animals at most times, although we
don't always notice. From the air that we breathe to the foods that we
eat; to the qualities of light, shade, heat and rain, community, and which we
experience, non-humans are major players in our lives, whether we notice
them or not. The job of this lab is to notice them.

Through a variety of environmental education, permaculture, naturalist,
and deep ecology techniques, we will encounter the plants and animals in
the neighborhoods surrounding the Wayfinding Academy, and the unique
relationships that we each have, and have as a group, to these life giving
members of our community.

Although this workshop will utilize some taxonomic plant and animal
identification tactics and tools, it will also involve a holistic approach
to who these other creatures are, and to what we are as humans. We will
seek to explore beyond naming and classifying, into places where we
recognize complex sensory and social relationships within communities of
flora and fauna.

Lab registrations are non-refundable

Lily Nash

Lily Nash has practiced environmental science, permaculture, community organizing around environmental justice, gardening, farming, soil science, fruit tree biology, wild foraging, and several types of art. Lily has been a teacher in a variety of subjects for about 15 years, with people from many cultures, ages, and life circumstances.

A goal of this course and of Lily's life, is to notice, honor, and appreciate all of the ways and means of living in community with plants and with people. They are deeply committed to creating an equitable and participatory society and feel that one way out of usury and oppression, is reconnecting with other people and remembering land together.

Sliding Scale Tiers:

  • Low End - $90

  • Middle - $120
