An opportunity for a work space in a unique community.

  • Are you a local entrepreneur, creator, maker, or designer?
  • Are you looking to move away from the world of cubicles or working at your kitchen counter?
  • Are you interested in doing your work in community but also having an office with a closed door?

Tell me more about Wayfinding Academy:

Wayfinding Academy is a new college located in St. Johns at the heart of a movement to revolutionize higher education. Our 2-year program is anchored by 9 core courses in communication, social change, teamwork, and leadership that helps students on any path. From there, the curriculum is handcrafted by each student with the support of their Guide. We invite about 20 students per cohort, and our first cohort graduates in July 2018. To get a better sense of our building as a whole, check out this video tour of campus.

What’s exactly is the creator-in-residence program?

Wayfinding Academy is a place where community is strong. Our students, crew, and community members dream big, work hard, and create an environment that inspires creativity and risk. We have open office space in the basement level of our building that we’d like to offer to a local community member. Our last Creator was Doug Neill, a local sketchnoter and founder of Verbal to Visual. We loved having Doug around the building to share tips on sketchnoting and design, and he appreciated the unique workspace. We call this person our ‘creator-in-residence’ because this is more than just an office space. We’re looking for a great fit for both you and us!

What are the benefits of having space in our building?

  • Your own 100sqft office to decorate (paint, hang pictures, etc!), organize, and design as you please

  • Free access to high-speed internet (wireless as well as ethernet connectivity)

  • 24hr building access, 365 days a year

  • Access to the entire building (as available) including classrooms and meeting space. Plus access to our kitchen with a shared fridge and microwave.

  • The chance to hang out with students, crew, and faculty who are doing amazing things in the community, which could spark interesting conversations over tea or a game of ping-pong.

    • Additionally, the chance to bring on a student intern as all our students complete two term-long internships during their two years at Wayfinding Academy.

  • The opportunity to attend up to three of our Labs (12 hour workshops) free of charge

  • A community of people who care about what you do and want to support you in your work

Who’s this for?

First and foremost we are looking for someone who cares about building community, and especially anyone who has a passion for education. We think a great fit would be someone who’s excited about sharing what they do (especially with students) and who also wants to engage in occasional hallway conversations or participate in our events.

I first sought out space at Wayfinding Academy because I wanted a dedicated office that wasn’t in my home. I got that, but so much more. The community of people here bring an energy to this building that supported my work and life in ways that I never would have imagined prior to becoming a part of this community.

What's the cost and committment?

We’d like this person to commit to being part of the community for a year. For the space we’re charging $500/mo (with one month free if you sign a year-long contract).

I’m interested! What are the next steps?

Great! If you have additional questions or want to view the space you can reach out to Tina Hart, Director of Student Services & Campus Activities, at tina@wayfindingacademy.org
