Wayfinding Academy is excited to announce that we are recruiting for an AmeriCorps VISTA Member to serve with us for one year starting July/August 2017!
AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) was founded in 1965 as a national service program to fight poverty in America. In 1993, VISTA was incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs. VISTA members help to strengthen communities across the United States by building capacity for nonprofit organizations.
Wayfinding Academy is partnering with Campus Compact of Oregon to offer a one year, full-time position with our crew. Campus Compact’s VISTA program specifically enables colleges, universities, and community organizations to develop equitable community-engaged programming that increases educational access and success for students from low-income backgrounds and communities of color. Using an equity lens, VISTAs build capacity for college campuses and organizations to increase access to educational resources to alleviate poverty based on community identified issue areas.
Because we believe that college should be accessible for everyone, our VISTA will spend the year partnering with diverse, local organizations to build strong ties with youth in the community who might be a great fit for our two year program. Additionally, our VISTA will work closely with our two cohorts of students creating opportunities for them to learn, teach, serve, and explore together.
Our AmeriCorps VISTA member is a key part of the small Wayfinding Academy team. This person will play an important role in creating community within our first and second cohorts, connecting Wayfinding Academy with the St. Johns community, and helping us to grow by recruiting a diverse, third cohort of students.
Does this sound like you? Do you know someone who would be a great fit? Please read the information below.
